Police want CCTV cameras installed in schools

Issue safety guidelines for institutions

Chennai City police have advised schools to install Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on their premises.
During a meeting with representatives of schools conducted at the Chennai Police Commissionerate on Tuesday, schools had been asked to install CCTV cameras especially at the entrances.
With most private and government schools in the city set to reopen on Wednesday, Chennai Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, and other senior police officials issued various safety guidelines to be followed by schools.
A senior official of the city police said that school authorities have been instructed to appoint drivers and helpers after taking a conduct certificate from the police department. Similarly, schools should take steps to collect details of private vehicle owners and drivers who transport the school children and to have contact details from the local police station.
At the meeting, the police also asked the school managements to keep a regular watch on hawkers selling snacks outside the school premises.
