Lahore blast: Inoperative CCTV camera handicaps JIT investigation
LAHORE: Inoperative CCTV
cameras at the site of the recent suicide attack in Lahore
which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, including nine police
personnel, has created a hindrance for the Joint Investigation Team
formed to probe the incident, sources informed Geo News.
As the JIT started collecting evidence from the
blast site near Ferozepur Road, the team decided to proceed by taking
into account pictures and videos from the CCTV
cameras installed nearby under the 'Safe City Project',
however, it soon found that the cameras were out of order.
Sources said that with the help of
CCTV footage, the investigators wanted to ascertain the
identity of the attacker and his facilitators but due to the
unexpected glitch, the investigators are facing issues in carrying
out the investigation.
The JIT has taken into account testimonies of
eyewitnesses and the injured; while the team is waiting to receive
the medical report of the alleged suicide attacker.
The investigation team comprises Punjab additional
home secretary, officials of the counter-terrorism department, police
and intelligence agencies.
Earlier, reports said the suicide bomber was
around 16-17 years of age and arrived in a rickshaw. Moreover, the
First Information Report (FIR) on Monday's suicide attack states that
the attacker had two accomplices.
The FIR, registered against three unidentified
person states, the bomber bid farewell to two people before
approaching policemen resting under the shade of a tree and
detonating the bomb.
The suicide bomber traversed from Gajju Matta town
to the site of incident – Kot Lakhpat Sabzi Mandi—in a rickshaw,
intelligence officials had disclosed further.
